BA DipT ASDA Rev Int Faith NY
Meditation teacher of children and teens
Lois began teaching meditation and mindfulness to children at Lifeflow in 2015. Previous to this she had spent two years studying meditation practices through One Spirit Interfaith Seminary in New York, attended Lifeflow classes and our Teacher Training program. She has an Arts Degree majoring in English and Drama, along with a Diploma of Teaching and over 40 years of classroom experience, teaching at both primary and secondary level. She continues to teach students with a wide range of abilities, valuing their individual differences and personalities. In addition, Lois holds an Associate Diploma in Speech and Drama, is the President of the Speech and Drama Teachers Association of SA and has studied Dalcroze Eurhythmics at Associate Teacher level.
Being a natural meditator or ‘dreamer’, Lois enjoyed many hours of solitude in nature as a child, which paved the way to a more formal practice. This has given her inner ease and therefore an easy affinity with, and love for, people of all persuasions. Having suffered the pain and fatigue of fibromyalgia, she is able to keep life in balance through regular meditation and exercise.
Married with four adult children, Lois loves reading, cycling, travel, swimming, square dancing, movies, playing the piano, working with children’s singing groups, gardening and being in nature.
My most valuable lesson recently has been to practise ‘dispassionate compassion’. As Thich Nhat Hanh expresses so succinctly, ‘When we restore peace within ourselves, we have a chance to restore peace within others.’
