Certificate in Meditation
– Teacher Training Level 1
This practical, hands-on course is suitable for health and human services professionals who would like to use mindfulness and meditation techniques as an adjunct to their work – for example, doctors, psychologists, nurses, physiotherapists, counsellors and social workers, as well as teachers, trainers, team leaders and parents.
This training aims to equip you with the necessary skills, teaching experience, understanding and confidence to share a range of Lifeflow meditation and mindfulness techniques with others, and also to enhance your personal and professional abilities. These techniques can be used to find calm and balance, helping with stress, anxiety, pain and illness. They can be applied in every situation of daily life; in the car, at work, at home, in a social setting or classroom.
The course also covers:
- How to present meditation and mindfulness in easily understandable terms
- How to guide a meditation skilfully
- How to establish an appropriate setting for a meditation class
- How to answer frequently asked questions
- Basic meditation theory
- How to recognise the signs of a light meditative state
- How to structure an individual and/or group session
- Your ethical responsibilities
- How meditation can complement your discipline
Content - core course
Emphasis is placed on giving all participants the experience to develop the skills needed to lead groups and clients in meditation, and knowing how to choose which meditations are appropriate for their clients. Past participants have also found that the skills and knowledge learnt greatly enhanced their own meditation practice.
You will be provided with a comprehensive training manual, a set of prompt cards for all meditation exercises and the resources to help you share this valuable skill with others. Please note that additional resources, including relevant texts and CDs are available for purchase.

Feedback from previous courses
As a professional adult educator, I am rarely satisfied with professional development. This course is the exception. Superb, simple as that.
Danny Slater, Senior Lecturer TAFE SA
The information is provided in a practical, accessible way for the general public. I love that there are many levels of training so that there is a pathway of personal/professional extension if required. Presenters were engaging and material relevant. Thanks for a wonderful, thorough training.
Bindi Blacher, Arts in Health at Flinders Medical Centre
High quality material and presentation with lots of practical exercises that gently increased my confidence in teaching others. Very supportive atmosphere which encouraged me to take risks. An ideal learning environment.
Maureen Ritchie, Social Worker/Counsellor
Can highly recommend this course as a valuable process for personal development and therapeutic meditation. Very much suited to our culture and lifestyle. Loved the professionalism that characterised the course.
Elizabeth Beasy, Remedial Massage Therapist
This course was presented absolutely professionally and with integrity and with a warmth that was much appreciated.
This training assumes, and builds on, the theoretical knowledge and meditation practices taught in our Learn to Meditate course. Even people with years of experience in other kinds of meditation find this essential to gain the most from the Teacher Training as the Learn to Meditate course introduces a broad range of techniques and the theory supporting meditation. Consequently, completion of this course is a prerequisite for participation in the Certificate in Meditation – Teacher Training Level 1 course. See the Learn to Meditate courses schedule.
Course structure, assessment and certification
The course will revise core meditation theory and include the relevance and use of mindfulness meditation. Each week a range of techniques that can be easily applied in your field of practice are introduced. To ensure that all participants have a thorough understanding of the basic theory and are confident in their delivery of the meditation exercises taught, an important component of this course is evaluation. The evaluation will cover both theoretical and practical components of the course.
- Throughout the course feedback will be given as you learn to guide meditations both in small groups and with the whole group.
- At the last session you will be required to lead the group in a meditation.
The theory assessment consists of a short written evaluation comprising a series of questions, each one requiring a paragraph answer. The theory assessment will be handed out in week three.
Once you have fulfilled the requirements of the course you will be awarded Certificate in Meditation – Teacher Training Level 1. This can be used to obtain the necessary Public Liability Insurance that many organisations require before they employ you, or allow you to hire their premises. When combined with our Certificate in Meditation - Teacher Training Level 2 course, plus additional assessment, you will have completed the requirements for Provisional Membership of the Meditation Association of Australia.
