Level 4 meditation course

In Level 4 you have the opportunity to study in depth the highest levels of philosophy, psychology and meditation practice derived from the Buddhist tradition. The knowledge you gain is integrated with our own philosophical and psychological tradition as there are many aspects of the two which are complementary.

About level 4

Philosophy and neuroscience are now examining the nature of consciousness at a level not previously explored. A key outcome of advanced meditation practice is that you can experience human consciousness directly by seeing how your own mind works.

You discover it can be still rather than thinking all the time, which is a fairly common belief in the psychology and academic worlds, and that you can be aware while not thinking. You also discover that thinking is simply your mind moving.

level 4 meditation course

Level 4 provides the maps, structures and knowledge to integrate the infinite nature of your mind with the finite nature of your body – to understand their interdependence and how they work together. These are based both on Buddhist traditions and the discoveries of neuroscience and psychology, and provide a solid foundation for your own wellbeing, your personal development, your spiritual growth and for living a meaningful life.

By integrating the knowledge of both Eastern and Western cultures, this course offers an opportunity to see how they complement each other harmoniously. Western culture’s research into individual human identity and human relationships provides the everyday counterpart to the meditation tradition’s direct observations of the human mind and emotions.

This course is for students who have completed two years of Level 3 classes plus at least two weekend retreats.

  • Extend your knowledge of the meditation path and of the stages of integration. Explore classical Buddhist concepts and the deeper meanings behind many apparently esoteric teachings.
  • Thoroughly test how the theory and practice hold up in everyday life. The theory penetrates right to the core of the Buddhist concepts of mind and creation and how they relate to the discoveries of neuroscience. Learn how to apply the practices and concepts and also how to check the results for yourself.
  • All courses are led by highly qualified teachers – each teacher has at least 10 years personal meditation practice.

The course is taught in self contained modules, each one being one term in length. The entire course is comprised of eight modules which are taught sequentially over two years. You may start in any term and continue for two years to cover the entire program.

Each module runs for 7 classes of 1.5 hours duration each.

Students are expected to undertake at least one retreat per year whilst attending Level 4. See our Retreats page for details of what is scheduled.

If you are looking to go further with your meditation experience, then we recommend becoming a member of Lifeflow. This opens the door to a range of members-only classes and retreats, and provides the opportunity to build stronger connections with our teachers. It can provide a valuable support for anyone looking to practise meditation as a serious discipline.

Membership is not just ‘all or nothing’ – you can choose your level of involvement. You can come to the occasional members class or retreat, or dive right into our advanced retreats (held at Kurlana Mallee Sanctuary), or just maintain your annual subscription and borrowing rights to our library.

Because so many psychologists were attending our courses we were asked to seek endorsement with the Australian Psychological Society. The APS replied, ‘APS Members can accrue CPD points by participating in CPD activities they determine to be relevant to their individual professional skills, learning plans and goals. These do not need to be endorsed by the APS’. Applicable to Lifeflow courses and retreats.

It is your responsibility to attend the classes as scheduled. If you cancel your booking five clear working days before the course starts, we will give you a full refund less a $25 admin fee. We cannot provide a refund after this time unless the course is cancelled, in which case a full refund will be given.
