As a professional adult educator, I am rarely satisfied with professional development. This course is the exception. Superb, simple as that.

– Danny Slater, Senior Lecturer TAFE SA

Aims

This once a year training aims to equip you with the necessary skills, hands on teaching experience, understanding and confidence to share a range of short Lifeflow meditation and mindfulness techniques with others.

A key focus of this course is giving you quality vocal training – this greatly enhances the delivery of your meditations and makes them more effective for your clients.

You will gain the skills needed to competently lead individual clients and groups, and you will learn how to choose which meditations are appropriate for your clients.

Course content

You will be provided with a comprehensive training manual, a set of prompt cards for all meditation exercises and the resources to help you share this valuable skill with others.

This course also includes:

  • How to present meditation and mindfulness in easily understandable terms
  • How to guide a meditation skilfully
  • Extensive vocal training so that your guided meditations can be more successfully delivered
  • How to establish an appropriate setting for a meditation class
  • How to answer frequently asked questions
  • Essential theory for meditation and mindfulness
  • How to recognise the signs of a light meditative state
  • How to structure an individual and/or group session
  • Your ethical responsibilities
  • How meditation can complement your discipline

These techniques can be used to find calm and balance, helping with stress, anxiety, pain and illness. They can be applied in every situation of daily life; in the car, at work, at home, in a social setting or classroom.

Past participants have also found that the skills and knowledge learnt greatly enhanced their own meditation practice.

High quality material and presentation with lots of practical exercises that gently increased my confidence in teaching others. Very supportive atmosphere which encouraged me to take risks. An ideal learning environment.

– Maureen Ritchie, Social Worker/Counsellor

Prerequisite

This training assumes, and builds on, the theoretical knowledge and meditation practices taught in our Learn to Meditate course.

Even people with years of experience in other kinds of meditation find this essential to gain the most from the Teacher Training as the Learn to Meditate course introduces a broad range of techniques and the theory supporting meditation.

Consequently, completion of this course is a prerequisite for participation in the Mindfulness Meditation – Teacher Training Level 1 course.

Two options to complete Learn to Meditate:

Either completion of an in person Learn to Meditate course
OR
completion of Learn to Meditate on-demand online and a 1 x 1 hour mentor session.

Course structure, assessment and certification

The course will revise core meditation theory and include the relevance and use of mindfulness meditation. Each week a range of techniques that can be easily applied in your field of practice are introduced. There will be ample opportunity to exchange ideas and practice with peers and teachers, in order to be confident in guiding others.

Week 1

  • Introduction to course
  • What is meditation and how can it help? – revision of core theory
  • Principles for guiding Lifeflow meditations
  • Training in meditation exercises

Week 2

  • Self-care
  • Ethics and responsibilities
  • Training in meditation exercises

Week 3

  • Structuring sessions for clients/groups
  • How meditation can complement your discipline
  • Training in meditation exercises

Week 4

  • Frequently asked questions
  • Training in meditation exercises
  • Evaluation of core theory and principles
  • Course attendees leading meditations for group
  • Completion discussion and feedback

To ensure that all participants have a thorough understanding of the basic theory and are confident in their delivery of the meditation exercises taught, an important component of this course is evaluation. The evaluation will cover both theoretical and practical components of the course.

Assessment

  • Throughout the course feedback will be given as you learn to guide meditations both in small groups and with the whole group.
  • At the last session you will be required to lead the group in a meditation.

The theory assessment consists of a short written evaluation comprising a series of questions, each one requiring a paragraph answer. The theory assessment will be handed out in week three.

Once you have fulfilled the requirements of the course you will be awarded Certificate in Mindfulness Meditation – Teacher Training Level 1

Successful completion of this course forms a core element of qualifying for Provisional Membership of the Meditation Association of Australia. See below for further details.
