A special and enriching experience, one of the most important things I have done for myself.

Why Tara Hills? Imagine this...

  • Taking a lovely drive in the Adelaide Hills to a secluded countryside location just past Nairne and only 45 minutes away from the CBD – far enough away to escape but close enough to get there easily.
  • When you arrive at Tara Hills in the early evening and get out of your car you will be struck by the silence, you will know that you have left the noise of the city behind you and your body instantly relaxes – your meditation retreat has begun.
  • You will be amazed by how you feel when you are surrounded by the beautiful natural environment of Tara Hills and how easily your mind and body begin to relax.
  • You’ll immediately notice the big sky and sweeping views through the rolling hills and the wide valley… . on a clear day you’ll be awed by the sunrise vista. The eucalyptus trees and small native shrubs surround the property, and are filled with local birdlife including kookaburras, blue wrens, and magpies… to name a few.
  • You are also sure to meet the group of friendly kangaroos that live nearby.
  • When you find yourself with some free time, a quiet dirt road beckons you to go for a stroll to see where it leads.
  • The purpose built retreat buildings have all been designed specifically for meditation retreat practice and to connect you with the natural environment of the property.
  • While on a retreat at Tara Hills retreat you will experience a blend of guided meditation, walking meditations, theory classes, deep relaxation and gentle yoga classes.
  • With plenty of time for you to go for walks, relax in a cosy spot in the sun, rest, reconnect and find peace within nature.
  • Your hosts for your stay will be the Lifeflow meditation teachers that are highly trained and have a minimum of 10 years of meditation experience and they will ensure you are completely looked after while on retreat.
  • Then there is the delicious food – lovingly made wholesome vegetarian meals and snacks are praised by everyone who visits a Tara Hills meditation retreat.

My weekend retreat at Tara Hills will have to rate as one of the best breaks I’ve ever had … nothing life throws at me at present can wipe away the smile on my face.

Give yourself a digital detox

The problem with life today is the distractions. You’re barely finishing one task before the next one comes up. Whether it’s an email, a phone call, one of your kids calling for attention, always caring for others, plus any of the other things that go on in your lives, we are constantly distracted.

Imagine having the opportunity to step out of your daily routine and busy daily lives with all the distractions and being able to fully immerse yourself into a new experience.

We find that many people love the digital detox that comes with the retreats and the opportunity for self exploration as you do a concentrated deep dive into your inner self.

Once you eliminate distractions and learn techniques that bring stillness to your mind, reduce stress, and bring awareness to your mind and body, you will find the level of relaxation that you can achieve to be quite amazing and can lead to new levels of happiness.

The magic and the fragrance of the bush, the caring and friendly teachers has made for a weekend retreat enjoyable and wonderful. The food our amazing chef provided was superb.

What will you get out of a retreat

When you are at Tara Hills not only do you get to enjoy the beautiful countryside, but you’ll also be able to to relax and restore your energy. This will naturally bring you back to a state of balance and emotional wellbeing.

As part of a retreat, you will be given daily classes in meditation and ample opportunity to practise, or simply relax in the stillness of retreat life. You’ll end up with a deeper understanding of meditation techniques that you can carry over into your everyday life – these can be life enhancing skills.

What better way to develop your meditation experience than in the company of experienced practitioners who can guide you through the process and be there to support you outside of normal classes.

You’ll also get to move your body and stretch tense muscles with gentle yoga and guided deep relaxation sessions to make sure you find the peace and rest that you are looking for.

While Tara Hills isn’t a completely silent meditation retreat we encourage minimal talking to enhance your beautiful retreat experience.

Each retreat is an experience that can become:

  • A vital part of your meditation practice;
  • Part of maintaining your wellbeing and self care;
  • An easy way to relax and restore your energy;
  • Path of personal discovery and fulfilment;
  • A way to escape from your everyday worries and concerns and give you a new perspective on your life;
  • A safe and calm space for reflection.

How long are the retreats? When are they on?

Weekend retreats are held monthly from March till November and each month a different meditation or mindfulness theme or topic is explored. Click here to see our upcoming retreats.

More advanced 7 day retreats are held in Autumn, Winter and Spring. Click here to see our upcoming retreats.

Other facilities

This architect designed facility was completed in 2006, and includes a spacious kitchen and dining room. The dining room features stunning views across Native Valley and the surrounding farms; at times the view becomes a breathtaking backdrop to mealtimes. Everyone who enters the dining room comments on the vast expanse of space, the open yet tranquil feeling that the room conveys.

All group classes, meditation sessions and Stretch and Breathe (gentle yoga) sessions are held in this spacious hall of 100 square metres in size. Filled with natural light, it has great views onto our landscaped gardens and in the distance to the other side of Native Valley. Next to the hall we have a sheltered area for use during fine weather.

Tara Hills is 65 acres in size. We have developed a land management plan to allow for natural regeneration of native trees and grasses. There is access to and seating in some of the paddocks close to the buildings – when you are on retreat, you are welcome to walk through this area.

The landscaping around the buildings has been developed using native plants and grasses, designed to attract the delightful birdlife of Native Valley. It’s in completion stages and has been lovingly designed and planted by friends and members of Lifeflow.

There are many enjoyable and easy walks on the nearby roads and on a clear day you can see expansive views all the way to the Coorong National Park.

A simply wonderful experience like nothing I have encountered before. It is amazing what insight one can get from stillness and silence.
