Advanced meditation

Awakening the heart

Sunday 6 March
11 am–12.30 pm
Tara Hills Retreat Centre

The essence of life is to be in contact with your feelings, and this is to be in contact with the heart. It is at the heart that you experience connection – with the feelings in your body, and with the people and environment around you. You can open to joy, love and stillness, and also to pain and loss; the full richness of emotional life. This meditation is deliberately designed to bring greater awareness to the heart, and to open up to all of the feelings experienced there. Adapted from the Tibetan system, it is one of the core meditations used in advanced practices at Lifeflow.

Awakening The Heart Advanced Meditation

At our advanced meditation sessions we offer an experience that engages all of your senses – sight, touch, sound, smell and taste – it gives a far more powerful experience than what we can offer in the Lifeflow Studio in the city. The visualisation will be accompanied with a mantra (a series of words that are repeated, bringing an aural component to the meditation) which, once learnt, can be used to easily bring back the feeling of the meditation.

A shared meal follows the visualisation.

Back to our Roots

Presenter:
Ben Dollman in discussion with Dr Ian Nuberg, Adjunct Associate Professor in the School of Agriculture, Food and Wine, University of Adelaide

Sunday 5 June
11 am–12.30 pm
Tara Hills Retreat Centre

A common theme in mindfulness practice is to be aware of and grateful for what we eat and what sustains us physically. But where does our food actually come from? Looking back in history and especially in many indigenous land-based cultures, the link between people, land and food is embedded into culture and spirituality, however in our city-based lives this has largely been lost.

Presented by Ben Dollman in discussion with fellow Lifeflow member and Adjunct Associate Professor of Agricultural Science Dr Ian Nuberg, this seminar will grow our awareness of how we actually feed ourselves in modern day Australia, and how traditional cultural and spiritual practices regarding land and food have helped people keep a true sense of their place in the big picture of life.

Embraced by Nature

This visualisation is for cultivating an awareness of our fundamental connection with the environment. Instead of seeing the environment as something out there, you develop the feeling of being embedded in the natural world.

General information

These seminars and Advanced visualisations provide a great opportunity to meet other Lifeflow members. The seminars are free, advanced meditations are $25 and open to all members.

Each session includes a guided meditation. After each Tara Hills session there will be:

  • a share lunch in our beautiful Dining Hall – please bring a plate to share;
  • time to soak up the ambience of Tara Hills and the surrounding countryside;
  • and time to meet with other members of the Centre.

Bring a hat and walking shoes too if you’d like to take advantage of the walks in and around Tara Hills.

About members' seminars

These seminars have been set up to provide an opportunity for members to share their experiences of meditation and its integration into everyday life. All members are encouraged to attend, to ask questions and gain some insights from fellow meditators’ experiences. Each seminar is presented by a member of the Centre, who may or may not be a teacher – so it’s a great way to hear about meditation from a variety of perspectives.

Each seminar is free for all Lifeflow members.

About Advanced meditation sessions

Each half-year, one of a series of 12 advanced meditations are held at Tara Hills. These meditations, with their mantras, can help you to become more familiar with different kinds of healthy emotional states. Through practice you can develop these states, and learn to access them at will.

For a detailed introduction of Advanced Meditations read more in this article.

Payment for this session:
$25 for current Members.

These sessions also provide a great opportunity to connect with a broader community of meditators.
