The future of effective and skilled leadership rests in knowing ourselves at a deep level, how our minds work, and how to develop the skill of being emotionally intelligent. Good leaders recognise that our most precious resource is the people working for and alongside us. How then do we learn to differentiate when we are caught in our egos, or truly listening to others and opening to other points of view?

Until we gain skills in reading emotions the odds are against us making good decisions for ourselves and those we are leading. Experts in decision making and business leadership have worked with Lifeflow to design a unique experience to help you make more considered and effective leadership decisions.

Understanding and applying meditation and mindfulness will allow you to open your mind to gain the overview on any situation you are dealing with – the big picture view. It enables you to listen, both to yourself, and to others. You are then able to make clearer decisions.

Who is this retreat for?

Existing or emerging leaders/entrepreneurs who:

  • are interested in or have some experience of meditation and mindfulness;
  • want to learn how the reflective process might guide them in their roles;
  • are looking for professional development in emotional intelligence;
  • would like to take time out to learn in a relaxed and informal context;
  • need to destress from their busy roles and reflect on how to be a good leader and make more effective decisions.

On this retreat you will learn:

  • tools for making good, conscious decisions, based on the discipline of decision analysis;
  • a map for understanding how your mind makes decisions, enhancing your ability to innovate and inspire;
  • an appreciation of the function and importance of values, both in decision making and in building an organisation;
  • knowledge of how the ego works, what it is for, and how it sabotages your leadership;
  • meditation and mindfulness skills for going beyond your ego view and getting the most out of your team;
  • skills for good communication, for listening to others and being open to their point of view;
  • to maintain greater focus leading to improved judgement and decision making; and
  • an increased ability to effectively deal with personal and workplace stress.

You will also have plenty of time to spend reflecting and relaxing in the beautiful natural environment of Tara Hills Retreat Centre.

Meet your retreat leadership team:

Graham Williams

Dr. Graham Williams is the Founder and Director of Lifeflow Meditation Centre Inc. The Centre has grown from a small group of people interested in meditation to a thriving organisation brining mindfulness and meditation to the Australian community.

Trained in the Tibetan and Burmese Buddhist meditation traditions, Graham has over 40 years of teaching experience with local, interstate and overseas students. Graham has developed a way of imparting the skills and knowledge of the traditions in an accessible and contemporary approach.  He has worked tirelessly to train a group of teachers to continue and expand the meditation tradition.

As well as having consulted alongside psychologists, presenting at conferences and a previous board member of Meditation Association of Australia, Graham is a visionary in this field.

Sally McLennan

Sally has had 40 years of management experience, working in both the private and corporate retail sector.   Originally from the UK, Sally moved to Australia with her husband Rob where she worked with Myer, David Jones, and Country Road/House until they decided to go out on their own, and subsequently ran their own retail businesses until they retired after the sale of their Snooze store at Mile End.

Sally has been meditating for 12 years and believes that her experience at Lifeflow was a cornerstone to her mental and physical health over that time, and consequently was a part of the success of the Snooze business. She brings her business skills in marketing, customer relations, communication and human resources and her wisdom to the retreat.

Steve Begg

Steve is one of the foremost globally influential thought leader, practitioners, authors, and educators in the management and information domain, changing the way companies and individuals access information and implement decisions.

He is an Emeritus Professor at the University of Adelaide.  He is a internationally recognized expert on tools and processes for making good decisions.

Steve has published numerous papers on topics such as investment evaluation/economics, decision-making, psychology of expert judgements.  He is co-author of the book “Making Good Decisions”, has given many industry short-courses and workshops at all levels, including BHP’s global leadership program, and is a frequent keynote speaker at conferences.

For the past 15 years he has been a regular attender at Lifeflow courses and is particularly interested in the complementary aspects of meditative and scientific approaches to decision making.

Retreat fee includes

  • Guidance throughout each day in retreat. There are normally 4–5 guided sessions per day: meditation, deep relaxation and gentle yoga.
  • Retreat handout with a summary of the theory being presented.
  • All meals are fully catered including snacks in between meals. We serve delicious, fresh, healthy vegetarian food. (If you have any special food requirements, eg gluten-free, lactose intolerance etc, please bring any additional items you may need; soy milk is provided.)

  • Highly qualified teachers are on every retreat – you can check your meditation and yoga experiences and get some guidance during the retreat.

No prior meditation, yoga or retreat experience is required to attend this retreat. You will be guided by a team of experienced teachers who can help answer any questions that may arise during the retreat. All meditation sessions are guided and there is a theory class each day to support the understanding of the practical sessions.

Each day of the retreat provides a good balance between classes, time on your own, guided meditation sessions and plenty of time to enjoy the countryside. You can find out much more on our  Retreat FAQ page.

When you book into a retreat we’ll send you a map of directions to Tara Hills and a summary of what to bring. All rooms include linen, so you just need to bring comfortable clothing and toiletries. Everything else is provided.
